Feral Pigeon (Columba livia domestica)
Originally brought to the United States as a domesticated bird, pigeons went feral soon after. They can be found in virtually every city of the United States especially near areas where there are reliable food sources.
Pigeons can form large flocks and infest buildings with adequate cover for roosting at night and nesting during the breeding season. During the day, they like to bask in the sunshine on buildings with southern exposure.
This type of activity can accumulate massive amounts of pigeon guano which can be very acidic causing damage to a building's substrata.
Pigeons also like to roost and nest on rooftop HVAC units allowing dried guano to get into the buildings ventilation systems.
People who work in buildings that are infested with pigeons can track in dried guano which contain harmful pathogens that could be breathed in.
